Born in Minneapolis ,Tom is 54 years old. He has four children. Two boys and two girls. The boys are involved in law enforcement. Shawn is a Police Officer with Lakeville, and Ryan is a Corrections Officer with Dakota County. Both sons are in the Air National Guard and have been deployed to Iraq. Tom Himself is retired from the Air National Guard where he was an Air Traffic Controller. The girls are both involved in graphic arts.

Tom went to grade school at Incarnation School in Minneapolis. He graduated from De La Salle High School. He joined the Civil Air Patrol and received flight training. He  soloed on his 16th birthday. He attended St Thomas College  and enlisted into the Navy during the draft. He was trained as an Air Traffic Controller and worked aboard the USS Forrestal CVA 59 in the carrier air traffic control center. He served on the carrier in the Mediterranean for over two and a half years. He returned home and served the remainder of his six year enlistment in the Naval Reserve. He then attended Minneapolis Community College and received an AA degree in Law Enforcement and worked for the Minneapolis Police Department in the property evidence unit.

He then transferred  to the Air National Guard and worked as the Chief Controller at Anoka County Airport for the Radar Approach Control. He also was control tower certified. He was hired by the Richfield Police Department as a Police Officer in 1978. While there he finished a BS degree in Law Enforcement at Mankato State College. He attended graduate school classes at St Thomas College. During his employment at Richfield he worked in many areas to include investigator, crime prevention specialist, emergency management, police reserve coordinator, police explorer advisor and currently as a sergeant in the patrol division. He owns and operates a police motorcycle escort business which provides escorts for funerals and oversize loads since 1980.

Tom has extensive training in emergency management and has been involved in many disaster drills and actual events. He is a licensed amateur radio operator and very knowledgeable in communications.

Tom has always been involved in his community and is well respected by the citizens of Richfield and a good leader and solid citizen.
